Wow! Lyn's first post! Sorry I just saw it only... thanks for such an honest entry. And thank God that you manage to get through your presentation! I believe God was with you through out! That's how God helped me through every single presentation (and class lessons too).
Today we played this little game to test if we know each other well enough. It's called cai cai wo shi shui. Lyn brought 2 newcomers too! I hope they enjoyed themselves today.
We had some sharing time where we had to share about certain dilemma we had during the week. It was very interesting and many of us shared deeper, beyond just the "Hi I'm xx and this week is fine." kind of sharing.
Carolyn is considering taking up this debating thing which takes up alot of time every Sat. Lon Hau has to fight the temptation of DOTA every night. Ben and Jonathan S has to juggle between study time and CCA. Lyn has to forget someone (hee). Jeremy wanted to do well for NAPFA. Nic has difficulty forgiving this girl who took his help for granted.
I forgot to share mine! For me, my struggle is whether to share my personal testimony at my wedding.
Most importantly, we learn that God gave us the privilege of free will. Because we are not robots, we are given the freedom to choose for ourselves. Sometimes we make good decisions. Sometimes the choices in front of us are neutral. But other times, we may end up making bad choices. Whatever it is, we learnt that God is with us and His grace will help us even when we do end up with making a foolish decision.
But that doesn't excuse us from doing the right thing because God gave us free will and we need to use it properly. Paul in 1 Thessalonian Chapter 2 expresses what keeps him from choosing the right thing to do.
We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts. -1 Thess 2:4
Paul is motivated by wanting to please God rather than men. This is different from trying to be good so that God will love us more. God's love and grace is there no matter how good or bad we are. It is unconditional. Rather, we want to love God and please Him because of all the things that He has done for us.
So one question this week you need to think about is whenever you are facing any decision, are you pleasing God? Are you pleasing God in your school, at home or when you are with your friends? What makes God smile? Ask God and I'm sure He will tell you.
I want to end with this quote from Eric Liddell. He is the winner of the 100m dash at the Olympics in 1924. At that time, he was participating in the Olympics, before heading to China to be a missionary.
"I believe God made me for a purpose, but He also made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure."
What can you do this week that will please God?
